Abstract

In this paper, we discuss one way to integrate waveguide cavities with strip lines technologies to obtain a new structure of substrate integrated waveguide cavity which can be an integrated part with other microwave circuits, and it is fabricated by the same technology, where microwave circuits are fabricated using printed circuit board PCB technology, and it characterized by specifications of each the tow technologies, traditional waveguide and planar circuits, concerning the quality factor and the small volume. We propose a new method to reduce the volumes of these substrate integrated waveguide cavities to obtain what is called Half Mode Suabstrate integrated Waveguide HMSIW cavities, where these cavities maintain half of electric and magnetic fields distributions of the Substrate Integrated Waveguide SIW cavity at the same resonant frequency. This cavity has half area of the traditional SIW cavity area, where also it can be fabricated by printed circuit board technology. Results of this paper show that we can use this new kind of SIW cavities in microwave circuits especially microwave filters which are so important in this domain.
