Study about The Topical Anesthetics and Sedation Use by Dentists

Abstract

The aims of this study by sample of dentists to identify the percentage were used of some common topical anesthetics and the sedation in their practice and to know if there is a influence of specialize in OMFS in the results. The participants were 219 dentists, the percentage of OMFS were 53.42%. The questionnaire includes two choices (Yes / No) about the topical anesthetics and sedation were the participants used in their practice. The data were analyzed in SPSS software by using Chi-square test and Fisher exact test. The  results show that 65.8% of dentists were used the topical anesthetic lidocaine and 20.5% were used benzocaine (P>0.05). 11.4% of dentists were used the sedation with nitrous  oxide and O2. 9.6% of dentists were used the oral sedation with benzodiazepines and 5.6% were used the IV sedation with benzodiazepines (P<0.05). The conclusion of study hows that a little of participants used sedation in their practice and the topical anesthetic lidocaine was more commonly used than benzocaine
