General Information

Description

Production and operations management is the process, which combines and transforms various resources used in the production/operations subsystem of the organization into value added product/services in a controlled manner as per the policies of the organization.

The course introduces students to the concept of production management and operations as the most important functional areas in business organizations. The course covers many aspects associated with this function such as: determining the objectives, designing and optimizing the product/service, designing standards, analyzing processes, store management, planning and controlling production, quality control, and the use of quantitative methods in reaching the optimum allocation of available resources to maximize profits.

 

 

 

 

 

Expectations and Goals

The course aims to:

1.             To understand the basic concepts and theories of the production management.

2.             To comprehend the operations management situations with greater confidence.

3.             anticipate issues in production and operations processes they may face during their careers

4.             expand individual knowledge of operations management principles and practices.

5.             To apply operations management concepts and their influence on business decisions.

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

1.                 Demonstrate an awareness and an appreciation of the importance of the operations to the sustainability of an enterprise.

2.                 Explain the importance of forecasting, and ability to apply some mathematical forecasting techniques.

3.                 Demonstrate and understanding of the principles of just-in-time systems.

4.                 Demonstrate and understanding of the problems involved in inventory management.

5.                 Demonstrate and understanding of the principles underlying materials requirements planning.

6.                 Develop basic materials requirement schedules.

7.                 Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of operations scheduling.

8.                  Explain the importance of quality control,  and apply techniques to measure quality control.
