General Information

Description

The Quality Management course provides students with the knowledge and techniques required to improve product quality and process efficiency by identifying and measuring production process variability which, if not successfully addressed, leads to inconsistent product quality, costly wastage, non-standardization and other reliability and productivity problems.

This course will introduce key Quality Management processes. This course examines the role quality management plays in effective organisation management. This course will develop knowledge of how Quality Management processes are planned and implemented in order to satisfy the quality requirements of an organisation.

Also, This course introduces basic quality management concepts and definitions and builds on that knowledge to explore Statistical Process Control based quality improvement techniques as a means to diagnose, reduce and eliminate causes of variation and to assist in process improvement, production control, production planning and decision-making.  A brief review of the fundamentals of statistics and probability and their applications in quality management is provided, and various measurement and control techniques.

Expectations and Goals

The course aims to:

  1. Develop students' perception of quality concepts,and know the principles of total quality management TQM;
  2. Identify the stages of development and the dimensions of total quality management.

3.              Enhance students awareness of the disciplines, systems and techniques of quality management.

4.              Understand the difference between TQM and ISO 9000 series.

  1. Cost analysis from a TQM perspective.
  2. Know the use of quality improvement tools.

7.              Develop students' knowledge in the topics of customer, customer and market assessment.

8.              Enable students to apply quality management methods to all activities in the business or organization.

9.              Enable students to select, apply and recommend appropriate quality tools and techniques to all activities in the business or organization.
