Students’ Evaluation

- The academic year consists of two compulsory semesters and one optional summer semester:

The first semester: A compulsorysemesterlasts from 16 to 19 weeks, some of which are dedicated to examination nations.

The second semester: A compulsory semester lasts from 16 to 19 weeks, some of which are dedicated to examination nations.

The summer semester: An optional intensivesemesterlasts 8 weeks.

B. The annual academic calendar adopted by the university council defines the start of the education process in every semester, the examinations’ timetable, the duration of mid-term holiday, the announcement of the examinations’ results and registration.

- Students’ evaluationin every course throughout academic semesters is done through quizzes, homework, and different activities concordant to the nature of the course, which altogether express the extension of students’ comprehension of the course’s scientific content.

- Marks are distributed over  the academic semester evaluation components (quizzes, homework, activities and practical) according to the rules of procedure and courses' descriptions taking into account the following:

1. Theoretical courses:

a. Applied faculties: A percent not more than 50% of the course's mark is assigned to the semester evaluation component (quizzes, homework, and activities). Two quizzesat least must be done during every academic semester. A percent not less than 50% of the course's mark is dedicated to the final examination, which is a written and comprehensive one.

b. Theoretical faculties: A percent not more than 40% of the course's mark is assigned to the semester evaluation component (quizzes, homework, and activities). Two quizzes at least must be done during every academic semester. A percent not less than 60% of thecourse's mark is dedicated to the final examination, which is a written and comprehensive one.

c. Students who have not attained 25% of the semesterwork mark are not allowed to attend the final examination.

d. Students who have not attained 25% of the final examination mark are considered failed.

2. Practical courses, seminars, applied projects and clinics:

a. Faculties’ councils define the way of distributing the courses’ marks  provided  it is adopted by the concerned faculty’s council.

b. Thefaculty’s council issues at the beginning of every academic year, a resolution that shows the distribution of the marks of theoretical and practical parts (quizzes, activities and practical).

c. Student's final evaluation in a certain course is defined by summing allmarks of the quizzes, examinations, homework along with the practical (if there is any). The sum of these all makes the student's final total mark in that course.

d. A student may submit a special application form for reviewing his answering sheet of is finalexamination or quizzes within three days those follow the announcement of the results of the examination or test against a fee determined by the University Council. The revision process is limited to check physical mistake caused by adding marks or forgetting to correct question/s or part/s of them. The answeringsheets revised by the dean of the faculty, the head of department and the course teacher or any other teacher of the same specialization if the course teacher cannot come.

a. The grades equivalent to percent marks obtained by a student as a final total mark in a certain course along with the corresponding points are defined according to the following table:

Percent marks

 c. Student’s AGPA upon graduation is calculated as follows:

Percent mark = (final point upon graduation x 20) + 20

a. A student must commit tofull attendance system i.e. attending all lectures, practical session and discussions in accordance with the adopted study plan.

5. b. Deans, heads of departments, teaching staff and director of admission and registration are in responsible for implementing attendance regulations.

- Students are not allowed to absent more than 15% of the adopted semester credit hours.

- If a student absents more than 15% of the adopted semester credit hours without a sick leave or compelling excuse accepted by the dean of the faculty, he will be disqualified from attending the final examination and his points in that course will be zero and his grade will be Z and must re-register it if is a compulsory course. In all events, the zero will be counted in calculating the student's GPA concerning warning and dismissal from specialization.

-  If a student absents more than 15% of the adopted semester credit hours without a sick leave or compelling excuse accepted by the dean of the relevant faculty and adopted by the students council, he will be considered withdrawn from that course and will be subjected to withdrawal regulations. The dean of the relevant faculty must inform that to the director of admission and registration. Grade class (withdrawn) and grade (W)in that course must fixed in the student's academic register.

- A sick excuse must be confirmed by a medical report issued by the university physician, a university-accredited clinic or hospital and certified by the directorate of health. This medical report must be submitted to the dean of the faculty within no more than two weeks' time started from the student's absence. In any, the student must submit what confirms that within a week startsfrom the date of the force majeuredisappearance.

- A student may withdraw from a registered course during study semester and receives  in this case a grade class (withdrawn) and grade (W).The dead line for withdrawal from courses isdefined in the academic calendar announced at the begin ofthe academic year or the study semesters. A course grade (W) = Withdrawal is not counted in calculation in the student's cumulative average account. The remaining credit hours after withdrawal should not be less than the minimal credit hours load unless permitted by the university council.

- In case a student withdraws all courses within a specific semester, the semester is regarded frozen and the student will be awarded a grade W=withdrawn in all withdrawn courses. This semester will be counted in the maximum time of the study duration and registered in the student's transcript of records without being calculated in the GPA, nevertheless its fees should be paid.

- The GPA of every student'swill be calculatedat the end of every semester by multiplying the obtained percent mark of every course by the number of credit hours, summing them and hence dividing the result by the sum of the credit hours taken by the student during the semester.

- Each student's AGPA is calculated at the end of the academic semester for all courses the student has taken since his enrollment the university applying the same method for calculating the GPA. Highest marks of retaken courses will be taken in calculating the AGPA.

- Astudent ,who cannot complete the tasks required by him to avoid any failure occurred beyondhis control,is granted an grade I=Incomplete, based on aproposal of the faculty council hence on a university councilresolution. A student who obtained grade I = Incomplete must do perform the extra task required by him to remove this grade before the third  week  of the following academic semester; if he fails to accomplish this in due time he will be granted the grade Disqualified or Failed (Z or F) in that course.

- A student, granted Disqualified or Failed (Z or F) in a course, must re-register and restudy it if it is compulsory one, register an equivalent course if it is an optional one with paying the adopted feesand installments.

- A student must attend  the course's final examination and will be considered failedand will be granted a grade Failed (F), if he does not attendthe final examination or obtained less than 25% of the mark regardless the marks obtained in previous evaluations in that course.

The minimum and maximum credit hours the student can register are specified in the following table:

Maximum for the faculties whose credit hours exceed 200

Maximum

* student's average in previous semester is not less than 80% or 3 points.

- A student's study load in the graduation semester may exceed 21credit hours in autumn and winter semesters and 12 hours in the summer one.

- If a student has a heavy study load, non-counted in his credit hours (such as remedial foreign language courses or basic sciences courses), the university may exempt him from registering credit hours. Hence, the total study load resulted from counting the remedial courses will be considered in evaluating the student's academic level upon granting him official documents.

- A student may retake any course he has already passed only once, and the highest mark will be considered in calculating his points. The course's credit hours will be considered only once in calculating his study plan.

General rules:

Revising a mark or re-correcting the answering sheet is not allowed unless there is a mistake in summing or fixing the fractional marks, or not correcting the entire answer or a separated part of it.

The course examination committee is not allowed to change any mark or retrieve the answering sheets after opening them.

Students are not allowed to see his answering sheet unless the dean of the faculty deems it necessary.

The dean of the faculty or the vice dean, the courses teachers and the director of admission and registration study the students’ objections to their marks and make sure there's no mistakes in their answering sheets after completing correction.

The total course mark is rounded up regardless the value of the fraction.

Graduatestudents may register the credit hours needed for graduation even they are less than the minimum credit hours allowed in their semester of graduation.

A written and comprehensive final examination for every course will be done at the end of the semester. It may include practical or verbal test or report. The faculty council decides their percent of the final mark examination upon a recommendation from the relevant department provided this should be announced to the students at the beginning of the study semester.

Students who have not achieved the stipulated course attendance are deprived from attending the final examination and granted grade Disqualified (Z).

The marks of courses studied at other universities are not counted in the students’ AGPA.

Students transferred from other universities are not permitted to graduate unless they study more than 50% of the credit hours adopted by the SPU.
