In order to encourage investments in the securities sector and in the belief of the importance of raising the level of investment awareness among university students, a workshop was held in cooperation between the Syrian Private University and the Syrian Securities and Exchange Commission, in cooperation with the Damascus Stock Exchange and the Association of Financial Services and Brokerage Companies.
The workshop, which was held at the university's temporary headquarters on Saturday and Sunday 09-10 / 4/2016, was attended by Dr. Nayla Zakaria, member of the Board of Commissioners of the Securities Commission, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Dr. Basil Al-Khouri, and a number of professors and students.
On the first day of the workshop, a definition was given about the Syrian Securities and Exchange Commission (its establishment - its objectives - the joint stock companies - financial services and brokerage firms), the definition of the presence of the activities of the brokerage firms and the financial market. Control of the market and its institutions and what is the role of these companies in the investment and mechanism of work also included a detailed explanation of investment in Syria.
On the second day, the workshop included a definition of the trading steps in the Damascus market for financial markets and what is the concept of the financial market during which the transfer of funds from surplus units to deficit units of investors. The objectives and functions of the Damascus Stock Exchange and the administrative structure of the market and its divisions were also defined. It also explained the difference between the regular market and the parallel market and how to start forming an investment portfolio in the market and what listed companies and their number and what are the commissions and dates of trading.
The workshop also included an explanation of the advantages of investing in securities, what courses are offered and the mechanism for applying for training courses.
