International symposium organized by the SPU Faculty of Petroleum Engineering on the importance of scientific cooperation in rehabilitation of oil industry in Syria

 

Under the patronage of the President of the Syrian Private University Dr. Nazir Ibrahim, the Faculty of Petroleum Engineering held an international symposium on the importance of scientific cooperation in the rehabilitation of the petroleum industry in Syria on Saturday 13/4/2019 at the Al-Assad National Library. In the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Petroleum Engineering at Al-Baath University, a group of lecturers from Al-Baath University, the directors of the state oil companies and institutions, representatives of the General Petroleum Corporation, the General Organization for Oil Refining, representatives of the engineering company HISCO, Asas Engineering, Petroserves Oil Services, the Vice President of the Syrian Private University, the Chancellor of the University for Technical Affairs, the Dean of the College of Petroleum Engineering, the Vice Dean, the professors, the lecturers, the technicians and the administrators of the College and its students.

The symposium was opened with a minute of silence on the souls of Syria's righteous martyrs and then playing the national anthem of the Syrian Arab Republic, followed by playing the anthem of the Syrian Private University. Prof. Nazir Ibrahim, President of the Syrian Private University, delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of scientific cooperation between public and private sector institutions and companies, especially in the economic siege imposed on our beloved country, and the importance of scientific and academic cooperation agreements signed by the Syrian Private University With the international universities, in which it aims mainly to exchange scientific and practical knowledge and experience with them, in addition to establishing knowledge to our students and informing them of the latest practical applications in various fields of petroleum engineering.
 

The Dean of the Faculty of Petroleum Engineering, Prof. Edmond Salloum, spoke then about the academic vision of the College of Petroleum Engineering in developing the petroleum industry. This was followed by a series of specialized lectures explaining how to use non-conventional methods in petroleum exploration, the strategy of developing oil production in the Syrian oil refineries, presenting real cases of the Syrian experience to extinguish the oil wells during the crisis and other topics delivered by the representatives of the participating parties.

The symposium concluded with a set of recommendations and proposals aimed at developing work in the field of petroleum engineering and investment of local and international knowledge and expertise to overcome the economic siege on Syria, in addition to providing certificates of thanks to the professors lecturing in the symposium.

At the entrance to the auditorium where the symposium was held was a digger and a surface unit for pumping oil as graduation projects for students of the Faculty of Petroleum Engineering at the Syrian Private University.
