Course description:
This course mainly discusses the main physical properties of rocks which are: porosity and its types, permeability and its types, saturation or rock with water and oil, capillary pressure, specific surface, and other perpetrates.
This course also studies some of the physical properties of the fluids existing in the rock's pores such as surface tension, angle of wittability, and other related properties. Form the other hand, this course includes detailed demonstration of the following lab devices as long as measuring methods using these devices and methods of processing data obtained from the results of these measurements:
Porosity measuring device, sample washing device, water and oil saturation measuring device;
Absolute permeability by gas measuring device;
Absolute permeability by water measuring device;
Capillary pressure measuring device for one sample;
Capillary pressure measuring device for multiple samples;
Relative permeability measuring device;
Compression of rock core samples measuring device.
Targets of the course:
Acquiring students the knowledge and comprehension of the basic principles of  properties of reservoir rocks and enabling them to carry out the relevant lab measurements;
acquiring students the knowledge and comprehension to describe the above mentioned devices, calibrating these devices, and operating these devices as well as knowing procedures to prepare an oil-sample for measurement, in addition to mathematical processing of the results obtained from these measurements;
Teaching language: Arabic
Language of academic books and references: Arabic and English.
