Abstract

Heavy oil constitutes a large proportion of the total Syrian crude oil, and this is what holds many problems relating to production, transportation and storage, where these problems are mainly related to its rheological properties. The main goal of this study is to improve rheological properties of Teshreen crude oil to convert it from non-Newtonian oil to Newtonian, with a focus on the use of chemical additives, due to its economic cost and for ease of technical procedures It was going to find a local additive instead of imported chemicals. For it has been conducting laboratory experimental study, which included a series of experiments designed to assess the rheological properties oil produced from Teshreen field, and to assess the impact of some imported chemical additives F-50 and D-100 and compared with the effectiveness of " Fusel Oil" as one of the remnants of the Sugar factories, especially it wasted in nearby rivers, causing significant pollution of the environment. The study showed the effectiveness of this additive in reducing crude oil viscosity and shear stress, and thus converted into Newtonian crude at a concentration equivalent to almost concentrations of imported additives.
Therefore it has been reached to propose usage of Fusel Oil as a substitute for imported materials, to achieving economic, technical and environmental benefits.
