Participation of the Syrian University for the Rome International Conference

The Syrian Private University took part in Roma International Seminar which was organized by Rome Tre University under the title "University Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Peace". SPU was represented by Dr. Munir Abbas, Head of Human Resources Department at the Faculty of Business Administration, and Waseem Gharazuddin and Naeem Homsi, students from the Faculty of Medicine. The workshop continued from 9 to 16 September 2017 in the cities of Rome and Viterbo in Italy.

The workshop was attended by the President of Rome Tre University and a group of its teaching staff, representatives of the European Union and international organizations, and a number of university presidents, deans of faculties, doctors and speakers from major universities in Italy, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Balkan countries, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine. Also, a huge number of students took part in this workshop, 450 graduates and beneficiaries from all the universities that benefited from the Master’s program in the participating countries for a period of six years as well as the countries that wish to benefit their students from the program in the near future.

The first part of the conference was held in the historic city of Italy, Viterbo, while the second part was held in the capital of Italy, Rome. It included a visit to Pope Francis. Then, the workshops were completed in Rome.

During the conference, Dr. Munir Abbas presented several introductory lectures on the Syrian Private University and its main role in developing the process of education in Syria since it is considered as one of the largest private universities in Syria in terms of the number of students, the achievements and published researches, in addition to the presence of a large selection of the most important and famous doctors in Syria and the establishment of several activities that contribute to the sustainable development at the university level as a whole and at the country level. These activities ranged from workshops, conferences, training courses, researches, educational, student, sports and intellectual activities, and other activities that are difficult to be all presented during the conference. Also, Dr. Abbas showed how Syrian universities managed to continue and expand their role during the crisis and became examples and a place for admiration and appreciation for all universities of the world in the sense of how countries can continue the educational process, no matter how difficult the crises and circumstances they are facing.

The participants, Waseem Gharazuddin and Naeem Homsi, also explained the importance of the role of the student in building sustainable development and peace in Syria, and how the student can, during his academic year, perform several basic roles that complement his social personality and contribute in building the nation through his integration in the activities of the university other than the usual traditional ones in education and scientific research. Also, they showed that universities have become an integrated world of study, practical application and building of human, and played an important social and economic role in the Syrian society by providing the labor market with qualified staff able to integrate into society in the most difficult times.

SPU and its representatives wished the Roma International Seminar, Rome Tre University and the participating universities and their staff and students all success, and hoped that the program would include a large number of Syrian students wishing to obtain a master's degree, and train and exchange opportunities with universities in the coming years.
