2) Crouse abstract & General Goals

يهدف هذا المقرر إلى تمكين الطالب من دراسة أسس وآليات التبدلات الكيميائية الحيوية في الجسم في حالات الصحة والمرض وصولاً إلى:

·       فهم القيمة السريرية للاستقصاءات الكيميائية الحيوية ومدى حساسيتها ونوعيتها ومعوليتها.

·       انتقاء الاختبارات الكيميائية الحيوية المفيدة في تشخيص المرض ومتابعة علاجه وسيره والكشف المبكر لمضاعفاته على أن تكون فعالة التكلفة ومستندة إلى البينة

·       تفسير نتائج الاختبارات الأمثل في ضوء المعطيات السريرية.

This course provides the student with the bases & mechanisms of the body biochemical changes in order to:

· Understand the clinical value of biochemical investigations as well as their sensitivity, specificity, & reliability.

· Select the biochemical investigations useful for diagnosis of the disease, monitoring its treatment & progress, and early detection of its complications taking in consideration the cost-effectiveness & evidence

· Interpretation of the results of biochemical investigations in light of clinical data.

مع النجاح بهذا المقرر، سيكتسب الطالب معرفة وفهماً بمبادئ الكيمياء الحيوية السريرية والاختبارات الكيميائية الحيوية، ويكون قادراً على أن:

·       يصنّف الاختبارات الكيميائية الحيوية (انتقائية – تحري) ويقارن فيما بينها لجهة غاياتها وحساسيتها ونوعيتها ومعوليتها

·       يصف الأخطاء المخبرية الشائعة ونتائجها

·       يحدّد القيمة الفعلية للاختبارات الكيميائية المتاحة ومدى فائدتها

·       يعدّد اختبارات وظائف الأعضاء ويشرح تبدلاتها في الأمراض

·       يصف أسس طلب الاختبارات الكيميائية الحيوية في الحالات المختلفة ويفسّر نتائجها

By the end of this course, student will gain Knowledge in, & understanding of the principles of clinical biochemistry & biochemical investigations. He will be able to:

· Classify the biochemical investigations (selective-screening) & compare between them in relation to their purposes, sensitivity, specificity, & reliability.

· Describe the common laboratory errors & their consequences

· Identify the actual value & limitations of available biochemical investigations

· List organ function tests & explain their changes

·       يشرح المفهوم الديناميكي للمجال المرجعي وتنوعه وفق العمر والجنس والعوامل الأخرى

·       يشرح مبادئ الاستقصاء الكيميائي الحيوي لأمراض المراحل العمرية الختلفة والأمراض الوراثية والاستقلابية الخلقية.

· Describe the basics of requesting biochemical investigations & interpret their results

· Explain the dynamic concept of reference range & its variation according to age, sex, & other factors

· Explain the principles of biochemical investigation of the disease during different age stages as well as genetic diseases & inborn errors of metabolism.

·       ربط فهم الحالة السريرية بالاختبارات المناسبة

·       تحليل نتائج الاختبارات والتأكد من مصدوقيتها واكتشاف الخطأ فيها من خلال التوافق بين الحالة السريرية والمعطيات المخبرية

·       ربط التبدلات الكيميائية الحيوية في الجسم مع نتائج الاختبارات الكيميائية الحيوية مع المعطيات السريرية للوصول إلى التشخيص

·       التخطيط للاختبارات المستقبلية الهادفة إلى مراقبة المعالجة والكشف المبكر للاختلاطات المحتملة

· Correlate clinical condition understanding with the suitable investigations

· Analyze test results, confirm their validity, & detect the errors by exploring the consisting between clinical & laboratory data

·  Correlate body biochemical changes, biochemical test results, & clinical data to put the appropriate diagnosis

· Plan for future investigation aiming to therapy monitoring & early detection of the possible complications

·       انتقاء الاختبارات الكيميائية الحيوية المناسبة للحالة السريرية

·       طلب الاختبارات فعّالة التكلفة والمستندة إلى البينة

·       التفسير الصحيح لنتائج الاختبارات واستخدامه في تدبير المريض

·       كشف الأخطاء المخبرية

·       وضع خطة للاختبارات المستقبلية مناسبة لحالة المريض

· Select biochemical tests suitable for the clinical condition

· Request the cost-effective & evidence-based tests

· Interpret correctly the test results & using this interpretation effectively in patient management

· Detect lab errors

· Planning for suitable future investigations

Going through this course will help student to:
